A New Chapter for Education in Tari No.2 - Edugha Organization Secures Japanese Support for Human Security

A New Chapter for Education in Tari No. 2: EduGha Organization Secures Japanese Support for Human Security

A New Chapter for Education in Tari No. 2: EduGha Organization Secures Japanese Support for Human Security

Education has long been recognized as the cornerstone of sustainable development. For the children of Tari No. 2, a community in the North Gonja District of Savannah Region of Ghana, access to a safe and conducive learning environment has remained a significant challenge for many years. Today, however, that reality is set to change.

On 3rd March 2026, the Edugha Organization formally entered into a grant agreement with the Government of Japan under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) programme, at the Embassy of Japan in Ghana. The agreement was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EduGha Organisation, Mahadi Alhassan. This partnership represents a transformative investment in human security, aimed at expanding access to quality education, improving sanitation and hygiene particularly for girls and strengthening community resilience. By building dignity and opportunity, the project lays a solid foundation for sustainable rural development and inclusive human security.

From Need to Opportunity
During its work in the Savannah Region, Edugha Organization encountered the Tari No. 2 community and observed firsthand the challenges children faced in accessing quality education. Overcrowded and inadequate learning spaces made it difficult for teachers to deliver effective lessons and for pupils to study in safety and comfort.
Recognizing education as the foundation for long-term community development, Edugha Organization applied to the GGHSP programme with a clear goal: to provide Tari No. 2 with the facilities necessary to support learning, dignity, and opportunity. After a rigorous selection process, the Government of Japan approved the proposal, entrusting Edugha Organization with its implementation.

More Than Infrastructure
The project goes beyond simply expanding learning space. It integrates essential facilities such as a borehole water system and modern sanitation units, ensuring pupils and teachers have access to safe water and improved hygiene conditions.
These improvements are expected to significantly enhance:
• School enrolment and attendance, particularly among younger children
• Learning outcomes and academic performance
• Health and hygiene standards within the school environment
• Overall community confidence in education
For many families in Tari No. 2, the project represents more than infrastructure, it represents hope for a brighter future for their children.

Strengthening Human Security Through Partnership
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects programme reflects Japan’s longstanding commitment to supporting community-level development initiatives around the world. By investing directly in projects that address basic human needs such as education, water, and health, the programme strengthens the foundation for sustainable development.
Edugha Organization deeply appreciates the trust placed in it by the Government and people of Japan to deliver this important intervention.

Commitment to Accountability and Community Ownership
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Bilal Taimako Shamsudeen, during the signing said, “Edugha is committed to ensuring that the project is delivered with full transparency, accountability, and quality. The organization will work closely with district authorities, traditional leaders, contractors, and community members throughout the implementation process. This collaborative approach will help ensure that the facilities serve not only the present generation but also future generations of learners in Tari No. 2.”

Looking Ahead
While the signing ceremony marked the official beginning of the project, the real milestone will come when the community gathers once again, this time to commission a completed school where children can learn in safety, dignity, and hope.
For the people of Tari No. 2, this project represents the opening of a new chapter, one where education becomes a powerful pathway toward opportunity, empowerment, and community transformation.

Edugha Organization remains proud to stand with the people of Tari No. 2 and grateful to the Government and people of Japan for investing in the future of Ghana’s children.

BREAKING BARRIERS: EISD Successfully Pilots Picture-Based Bookkeeping Booklet

After 13 months of demand assessments, valuable stakeholders’ engagements, content design and development, prototype design and testing and training with small businesses, we are excited to announce the successful piloting of our Picture-Based Bookkeeping Booklet in Northern, Upper East and Bono Regions.

Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals who lack reading or writing skills in managing bookkeeping, we have developed and implemented tailored strategies to simplify record-keeping. These include the use of symbols, images, color coding, visual aids, and illustrations in place of numerical data or complex calculations. In crafting these tools, we have carefully considered and integrated cultural nuances to ensure they are both accessible and relevant to the communities we serve.
This innovative booklet serves as a vital resource for local small businesses, enabling them to maintain accurate, well-structured records of their operations while enhancing their financial health and ensuring compliance.

Some important books of records contained in these booklets include the cashbook, the sales book, the purchase book, the stock book and the asset register.
As we move forward with refining the booklet based on the insights gained from the pilot, and prepare for its official launch and broader distribution, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this journey. From the participants who diligently tested the booklet to the stakeholders whose invaluable guidance and collaboration brought this vision to life—thank you for being an integral part of this achievement.

Over 120 industry partners of Alinea Foundation and members of 30 Industrial Trades Associations and in Northern Ghana participated a unique set of workshops in Bolgatanga, Tamale, and Wa from 23rd to 26th October 2023. This workshop under the theme "Audit to Action" was facilitated by the Edugha Institute for Social Development (EISD). Following thought-provoking breakout sessions, each trade area within the five regions competed by pitching their ideas to promote gender mainstreaming. A panel of judges from Alinea Foundation's regional Project Advisor Committee (PAC) assessed these initiatives and awarded cash prizes for the best initiatives. The winners from each region were awarded GHS 3,000.00, while the first runner-up received GHS 2,000.00 to start their gender-responsive activities. Additionally, certificates of appreciation were presented to industry partners who provided Workplace Experience Learning opportunities for trainees by the Field Manger, Dr Nancy M. Drost. Participants emphasized the workshop's positive impact on their professional and personal development. They reaffirmed their dedication to supporting the WEE-North project.

We would like to thank the Alinea Foundation (under the WEE-North Project) for the opportunity to have undertaken this task.
